When you take your sweet and precious charismatic momma to the New Years Eve Mass, you should expect something exciting.
We belonged to a very wonderful Methodist Church growing up. We were the CRUMY kids. (Custer Road United Methodist Youth). I have the absolute best memories of that youth group.
In college, I became Catholic. My dear parents are still Methodist. (That is a story for another day - but you are always welcome to ask questions - I am glad to answer!)
New Years is the celebration of the solemnity of Mary.
Mom and dad came with me to Mass tonight.
When the Priest said that today Mary would be the first to tell you that all that matters in life is her Son, my momma enthusiastically said 'AMEN'.
Oh it made me smile. I love my momma and I love her heart. And I love that her name is Mary.
Oh... I'm teary-eyed! What a great post. Love the last few sentences and I love Mary too. My faith journey has been a long wander. I was raised Mormon (I know...) and then after not attending church anywhere through my early twenties, I wound up at a United Church of Christ for fifteen years. Things were always rather unhealthy there in terms of how the church functioned and now we have attended an Episcopal Church in Utah...Catholic light, as some people say, for the past three years. Last year we built a Mary garden, but before we built the garden Her beautiful spirit was in this church.
