Grandma Camp {2013}

Cousins and Football.

We spent this weekend with Brian's family.

I'm blessed.

My in-laws are awesome.

I just love them to pieces.  

The Dallas crew came down to H-town and one of Brian's sisters hosted us.  

Good food, lots of football and lots of time at the pool.

Who went down the slide a screamin' and a hollerin'?  This girl!  It was a blast.  I love being around a house full of kids.  It makes me feel young.  And exhausted.  

It is so good to be in Texas.

Summer | Week Three

For summer week three, we concentrated on getting into our routine.

I created this chore chart using cute printables from Our Crazy Busy Bunch.  {Click here - she has some very cute ones!}

We wrote out our commission (a.k.a. allowance), giving and savings plans.  We agreed that they would go without their commission that week if the items above were not completed.  

We made jars for each of the categories and talked about what they would do with the money in their giving jar.

I answered lots of questions about why they still have to do homework in the summer.  I like the 'Summer Bridge' workbooks.   For Julia and Nate we choose one subject each summer to really focus on.  It might be a subject they struggled with the year before - or just a subject that I want them to have a good foundation on for the next school year.  When they complete the workbook, they receive a special outing with mom to a store of their choice.   

It becomes a fun way to earn a little extra treat for the summer, and I usually catch them doing more than they are required so that they can finish it even faster and take that special trip.

Summer Crayon Melts

Yesterday we made history - we hit 119 degrees here in the desert.

I have always wanted to try this craft, so I decided yesterday was the perfect day for this craft with Julia.

I think Meg was the first person to show me this craft.  {Click here}.

I was very creative and went with all blue.  

You know - I like to be edgy and different.  :)

Julia went with the traditional rainbow style.  So pretty.  

She would like you all to notice that she also ended with a red crayon :)

She is so creative - she also wanted to try this one.  

How does she think of this?  

One strip of hot glue at the top - and line up your crayons in any order you like.

I found the canvas at Michael's.  (Our Michael's has a clearance section where you can purchase canvases that have a little damage - usually a bent corner or small pencil marks.)

Instead of a hair dryer - we just set it up in the sun.  

This picture was taken after 40 minutes in 119 degree heat.

The heat even melted the hot glue.  

Next time - we will be stopping at 20 minutes to see how it goes.

It was really fun for a first try!  Next time - Nate wants to try it with us - but with black crayons:)
